We now know that the Council is likely to decide in June whether they accept our proposal and hand the Hall over to the Trust. This gives us time to give the campaign a big push, and prove both to the Council and ourselves that we can run the Hall successfully and sustainably, and that we have the support of the community.

So how can you help the Trust and campaign?  Here are some suggestions: helping the Trust raise funds towards taking over the Hall; help organise events; work on the business plan; help with paperwork; help with the Trust’s membership and supporters database . . .

Please think if you can help at all and, if you haven’t got much time, a very good way to help is to become a member of the Trust (click here for the form). The Trust currently has just over 30 members which seems a very small number compared to the support we know there is for the campaign to save the Hall. Please join if you haven’t done so yet, we need to be able to demonstrate that the Trust’s plans are well supported by the community and, of course, any membership fees are extremely important contributions to the Trust’s “takeover” fund.

We are next meeting on the 8th of February at 8pm at the Hall, please come if you can! Below are the dates for the Trust’s future events, and a couple of events that we thought you may enjoy.

Dates for your diaries:

8th February: General Trust meeting open to all the members and supporters, at 8pm at the Westgate Hall (conference room upstairs, but we can move downstairs if the stairs were a problem for anyone attending, please let us know).

5th March: Westgate Hall Garden’s tidy up (and, subject to confirmation, stall at the Antique’s Fair)… and maybe some cake to celebrate the Trust’s first birthday! We will email details soon.

19th March: Salsa party! Fundraiser for the Trust organised by Salsa Asi (many thanks!)

2nd April: Masked Ball, a very exciting joint fundraiser with Westrack Studios and Skillnet… (details coming soon!)

23rd-25th April: Fairy Festival: they have offered us a stall to promote our campaign, that we are hoping to accept subject to volunteer’s availability.

14th-15th May: Canterbury Climate Fair: we could potentially have a stall there, subject to volunteer’s availability. http://www.canterburyclimatefair.org/

5th of June: The Westgate Hall Big Lunch!

Other events you may be interested in: for Valentines’ weekend there are two fantastic offers at the Hall, by Trust sponsors: a Beverley Big Band dance on the 12th of February (contact Chris Cayley: christinecayley@tiscali.co.uk) and a Valentine’s curry night on the 13th (http://www.canterburycurryclub.co.uk/index.php/curry-night).
